Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager with strong nonprofit accounting experience to oversee the organization's day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role requires a detail-oriented leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and actively participating in accounting functions while managing the month-end close, grant reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full-cycle accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, including fund accounting and donor-restricted funds.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and prepare grant-related financial reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and analyze financial variances.
  • Coordinate the annual audit and assist with IRS Form 990 preparation.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Support leadership with financial analysis and strategic decision-making.
  • Mentor and supervise accounting staff while remaining actively involved in daily accounting activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience within a nonprofit organization required.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Previous Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant reporting, and GAAP.
  • Proven ability to be both strategic and highly hands-on in daily accounting operations.
  • Experience with audits, financial statement preparation, and budgeting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
